Rangers beaten, Cup games played

Lotto Central Federation League

With Watsons PN Marist having the Bye it left Havelock North Wanderers a chance to go back clear at the top of the ladder with a win on Saturday. They managed to do this 2-1 at home over Isles Construction Massey University FC with the loss for Massey dropping them down two places into fifth on the table. This is because Waikanae Beach Top10 Gisborne Thistle have moved back into third after securing a 4-0 win on Sunday when hosting Levin AFC thanks to a brace from Jimmy Somerton. Also GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic picked up a 2-0 home win against Alexander Electric Napier Marist to move Athletic up into fourth. In the final match Turbine Residential Ltd North End won 5-1 when Peggy Gordons NP Rangers travelled over for the match at Skoglund Park, Patrick Smither netting twice for North End. Isles Construction Massey University FC have fail to gain all three points when hosting Team McGhie Football Whanganui as the match finished in a 1-1 stalemate, a win for Massey would have had them in striking distance of the summit with a game in hand. OneStaff PN Marist had the Bye dropping back into second and the Golden Boot leader continues to be Cara O’Neill from Taradale with 13 strikes, a one goal lead from the chasing pack.

There were two close matches in the Nimmos Cup with the other two more one sided affairs. Two Division 2 teams battled it out at Karo Park with Vertech NZ Kaitake HB’s winning 2-1 over hosts Inglewood with David Kurth scoring a 84th minute winner. Division 1 side Withers Coachlines FDMC Senior Team looked in control away at Division 2 side Marty Suchy @Bayleys FC Western as they were three goals to one up but a red card as last man and a penalty meant the visitors had to play 40 minutes with 10 men but managed to hang on for the 3-2 win. McDonalds Real Estate Stratford travelled to the Division 2 leaders Taranaki Thru Tubing NP Rangers and it was the Division 1 side Stratford that progressed to the Semi Finals with a 4-1 win.
