Squash club in splendid shape

Kawaroa Park Squash club has had another outstanding year.
Despite the Covid-19 lockdown that forced the club to close for several months, Kawaroa Park members worked tirelessly behind the scenes to get the club up and running again.
This paid dividends with membership again increasing. There are now 309 members, including 104 females. The club has twice-yearly women’s-only coaching clinics, which helps to attract players just starting out.
That has resulted in more depth in women’s teams and this year the F grade women’s’ team won the district superchamps and was second at the National superchamps.
The B grade women also did well and finished second at the national super champs after being seventh-seeded as an invitational team.
The club’s success at super champs continued with Kawaroa putting forward 9 of a possible 10 superchamps teams in 2020. Four of the teams continue, with one to represent the club at the national level after success at the regionals.
Both the C grade and D grade men’s teams did well also and achieved a top-4 placing.
The future also looks bright for the club with 58 Junior club members, up on last year. Thirty-six are competitive and  Abbie Holmes and Lachlan Greensill both represented Central this year. Brooke Reid was accepted into the Sport Taranaki Future Champions programme and all three played for Kawaroa Park in the B grade superchamps teams at a national level.
The club also hosted a successful Junior Prince Tournament as well as the inaugural Taranaki Junior Open Tournament.
