For the first time in his racing career, Superstock driver Wayne Moss won the Repco Taranaki champs at a rain delayed meeting at Stratford Speedway on the weekend.
Initially scheduled to run on Boxing Night, the stormy weather forced the Sharpe Engineering Solutions sponsored meeting to be postponed to Sunday evening which saw a few cars drop out of the event due to other commitments but still saw a field of fourteen competitors on hand to contest the title.
Moss made a good start to his title bid.
Moving through the field from a grid twelve start to come home in fourth place in race one before finishing second in race two from grid five and second din race three, also from grid five, his total points earnings being enough to see him stand at the top of the podium by a one point margin from Blayke Adamson who had recorded a fifth and third place finishes before winning the third race.
Palmerston North contracted driver Scott Joblin was third overall.
Carl Shearer was looking strong for a podium finish after placing second in race one and winning race two but a tangle in race three that saw Blair Uhlenberg rolled and Shearer wedged on top of his car knocked both of them out of the running.
A field of fourteen Minisprint competitors from Taranaki, Whanganui and Palmerston North raced for the Zodiac Signs Taranaki Champs also.
After three races, current New Zealand Champion and defending Taranaki title holder Karl Uhlenberg emerged as the winner, marking three Taranaki titles on the trot.
Uhlenberg placed third in the first race from a grid twelve start before winning the next two races from grid five starts to be a clear winner of the title by a seven point margin over his nearest rivals.
Nathan Jefferies from Palmerston North and Bronson Pierce were tied for second. Fastest lap times were reviewed to decide the podium order with Jefferies taking second and Pierce third.
Interestingly, both Taranaki titles were won from the same grids with Wayne Moss and Karl Uhlenberg both drawing grids twelve, five and five in their respective classes!
Saloons raced for the Sam Korff memorial with a small but quality field of seven cars.
Thomas Korff rocketed away to win the first race from a hard charging Mike Adamson who seems to be coming to grips with his new American built car.
Bradley Korff assumed his usual position at the front of the field for the next two races, winning both. Points wise, it was all tied up at the top with B. Korff and T. Korff tied on points ahead of Mike Adamson.
A run off was held to find the winner and with T. Korff seemingly missing the start, B. Korff raced away for the win.
Streetstocks and Youth Ministocks also raced on the night with Shaun Hall taking a good win in the first Streetstock race before Matt Hill and Ron Washer nabbed victory in the others.
Youth Ministock races were won by Quin Turner (2) , Lucas Hurley and Blake Luscombe.
The evening concluded with a car crunching ramp demolition derby that saw nearly thirty competitors take to the track in a range of automobiles.
Daneil Reed outlasted his opponents to be the last car running and win the bulk of the prize money for his efforts.
The next event at Five Star Liquor Stratford Speedway is on January 9th and 10th and will feature the Mountain Motors New Zealand Superstock Grand Prix and the Buckthought Engineering Queen of the Mountain Stockcar champs.
