Golf: Taranaki set to host elite speedgolf field
Thursday, Oct 16 2025

Speed, precision, and endurance will be on full display when 40 of New Zealand’s top SpeedGolf athletes converge on Manukorihi Golf Club for the 2025 SpeedGolf Taranaki Open, taking place 18–19 October.
Competitors will line up across five divisions: Open Men, Open Women, Masters Men and Women (50+) and Under 18, with players travelling from across Taranaki and throughout the North Island.
Leading the charge is current World Number 1 Robin Smith (pictured), fresh from victory at the USA SpeedGolf Open last weekend.
Smith has enjoyed a dominant year on the international circuit, claiming the USA, Australian, and Irish Open titles, finishing second at the New Zealand Open, and third at the 2024 World Championships in Japan to cement his place atop the world rankings.
Fellow Taranaki and New Zealand representative Bernie Smith will also be one to watch, aiming to improve on his second-place finish at both last year’s Taranaki Open and the 2024 World Championships.
Other notable entries in the Open Men’s division include New Zealand team members Brad Hayward and Craig Russell, both showing strong recent form, as well as Darren Lewis who recently claimed third at the Australian Speedgolf Championships, all with a shot of the top prize.
In the Open Women’s field, Amy Linton arrives as the defending Taranaki Open Champion and the current New Zealand SpeedGolf Champion, making her the clear favourite to retain the title.
The Masters division also promises fierce competition, with New Zealand SpeedGolf Masters representatives Damian Mills (SpeedGolf North), John Farron, Troy Harold and Greg Anderson all in the hunt for top honours.
Spectators can expect fast-paced, thrilling action from 2pm.
Saturday, as elite players aim to shoot around even par in approximately 40 minutes—all while carrying only 3–5 clubs.
The blend of athleticism and skill continues to defy logic and deliver a captivating spectacle. The Taranaki SpeedGolf Open is a family-friendly event, featuring “give it a go” opportunities and fun activities for kids.
