Volleyball: Spotswood club hosts successful junior skills camp

The Spotswood Volleyball Club hosted another very successful Junior holiday Skills Clinic/Camp at the TSB Stadium on Friday 19th July.

The Skills Camp was the 7th hosted by the Club with 50 boys and girls from years 5-9 (9-13 year olds) participating in the clinic. Many of these players were from local primary and intermediate schools that do not have gymnasiums making regular training not possible due to the current lack of indoor venues in New Plymouth. Club President and camp Director Phil Gayton said “It was really noticeable to see how quickly the players improved their personal skill level and game play throughout the day”.

Camp coaches Dr. Bevan Erueti, Robbie Booth, Jessica Proctor, Scarlett Dinnis and Tia Christiansen were also impressed with the improvement shown throughout the day.

Bevan was a played for 5 years at Spotswood College and was the head Boy in 1992.

He has coached several NZ Age group teams, and is currently an Associate Professor at Massey University.

The next clinic/camp is scheduled to be held on Thursday 10th October.
