Moturoa coach reflects on successful year

Central Football

Moturoa AFC have returned to Federation League Football in emphatic fashion, claiming the title for 2023.

Having last played in the Lotto Federation League in 2020, this season offered an opportunity for Moturoa to return to the competition at the beginning of a new journey for the group, which so far couldn’t be going any better. At present, the side are perfect with 10 wins in 10 games, scoring 42 goals and conceding just 8 in the process. With two games still to play, Moturoa will be looking to maintain that unbeaten record through to the end of the season.

Head Coach Scotty Manson was beaming when commenting on his squads efforts for the season.

Having picked up the league title in the 9th week of the league with an unbeaten record has been both exciting and hugely rewarding for the team who have prepared and worked hard to meet its player led goals for the season.

“These goals also include representing the club in the wider community, offering pathways to players, doing well in the Federation Cup and priding itself on sportsmanship, opportunity and representing Moturoa AFC with pride and passion.

“We must mention the special achievement of Fernanda Toscani who leads the golden boot chase with 20 league goals in 10 fixtures to date, and also acknowledge that the side has been very well led by its captain Anna Hinton, supported by experienced vice captains, Kat Greany and Jenna Barry.”

The side are also still alive and through to the semi-finals of the Federation Cup for 2023 with that match vs New Plymouth Rangers looming on the 27 August.

“With a couple of league games and Federation Cup semi-final coming up in August the side will look to continue its form over these fixtures with the ultimate goal being to add some more silverware.”

Central Football also asked Mr Manson what may be next for his side.

“With season 2024 just around the corner planning will start soon in regard to a possible step up to the W League and the new and exciting challenges it would present the side and club.”

There were also some heartfelt final words from the Gaffer before he signed off.

"As a coach I am very proud of the squad and its huge achievement this year. The fantastic commitment to support one another in reaching their goals has been second to none. The team is full of excellent role models and the entire squad has represented the club with a high level of dedication and pride."
